One Direction was formed in a reality show, The X Factor, in 2010 and they "won" in 3rd place. 
All of the boys went there in order to became solo artists. However they were put together as a group. During the competition, they sang many famous songs. For example: "All you need is love", "Chasing cars" and "Your song". 

The members of the band are:

Niall Horan

Niall is the only one who isn't british. Actually, Niall is irish.

He sang "So sick" on his audition to The X Factor and he passed with 3/4 "yes"

Zayn Malik

Zayn is really shy and quiet  

Zayn sang "Let me love you" on his audition to The X Factor and passed with 3/3 "yes" 

Louis Tomlinson

He is the oldest one, but he act like a kid. Louis is really funny and easy-going

Louis sang "Hey there Delilah" on his audition to The X Factor and passed with 3/3 "yes"

Harry Styles

Harry is the youngest one.

He sang "Isn't she lovely" on his audition to The X Factor and passed with 2/3 "yes"

Liam Payne

Liam is called "Daddy Direction" cause he's really responsable and he takes care of the boys

Liam went to The X Factor twice. In the first time, he sang "Fly me to the moon" and, in the second time, he sang "Cry me a river" and passed with 4/4 "yes" 

Curiosities: 

- The boys are coming to Brazil next year on May 8th.

- They did a cover of "One way or another" to help the Africa kids.

- One Direction made a participation in the Pepsi commercial called "Live for now"
